Pre-Kindergarten Opening September 2016
The board unanimously approved opening the doors of New City School in the fall of 2016 with a Pre-Kindergarten program for 3 and 4-year-olds. This pilot program will be free of charge, primarily serving lower-income homes.
Children attending must be three by September 2016 and potty trained. The curriculum will focus on Kindergarten readiness for young preschoolers. Learning through organized play will concentrate on cognitive and social/emotional readiness.
The program will be held Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday mornings from 9 am to 11:30 am at Second City Church 251 Verbeke St.
Applications are now being accepted and can be found here shortly. Space is limited.
Why a FREE Pre-K?
There are over 1,700 three- and four-year-old children living in Harrisburg, 75% percent of whom do not have access to a high-quality, kindergarten-readiness preschool, those who do are hindered by cost. Since New City School exists for the Harrisburg’s children, it only makes sense to begin by offering this program free-of-charge following the pattern of the Joshua Group. This distinguishes our program from others in the area and also serves as an opportunity to address the needs of the approximately 400 children on the Head Start waiting list.
